While we wait, “Back in Black” Cetec Vega FRONT Boost

08 Jul While we wait, “Back in Black” Cetec Vega FRONT Boost

Thought I’d “update” audio wise the state of our research, while we (I at least) wait for the SVDS to come to me tonight.

Since it is now known that the SVDS only boosts from the front panel – which is a different circuit – wanted to try it.

Played with the CETEC-Vega R42/T77

Here’s the result.

Back in Black Cetec Vega FRONT Boost

PS: Important note: recorded with an original 1960s Neumann U67. Settings are IDENTICAL (amp and recording) to the recently played YSMANL video:

Okay, I’ve been on vacation and away from my computer… I missed a post somewhere! There is a front boost on the Cetec-Vega R42? Where?

Fil, are you still using the TX with 50kohm impedance on this recording?

What were your amp, rx, and tx settings for this recording, if you don’t mind sharing?

IMO, it’s spot on! I’ve never heard better. I actually prefer this one to the SVDS (new) version you’ve recorded.

You just can’t get enough of Back in Black, can you Fil? hehe
    Me neither. xD
Such a great song can be played to death and still sound as fresh as the first time. It’s addictive!

Jokes apart, another great recording bro! ๐Ÿ˜›
    Sounds really punchy.
I agree with the guys though. The solo is slightly too “warm”.

    Can’t wait to hear the Schaffer-Vega! ๐Ÿ™‚

Maybe a little off-topic, but… May I ask about that Selmer Treble ‘n’ Bass of yours? Did you have the chance to test it yet? How does it sound? I’ve been dying to REALLY hear the tones it can produce. I couldn’t find a single decent demo of that amp on Youtube… ๐Ÿ™
I went like “O.o!!!” when I saw it on your YSMANL video – hehe
(Am I smelling a Paul Kossoff tone project coming up? – lol)

Cheers bro! Hugs from one of your brazilian friends. ๐Ÿ˜›

while i listen to your Cetec Back In Black, i must think, where is the big difference between the Cetec and the original unit ???
Your sound with this Cetec is the original sound of Back In Black, what they recorded with the Schaffer Vega. Ok, your sound is not that cristalclear as on the album, but that may depend on the mic or the room or whatever, but IT IS the original sound ! I opened two browsers, one with your recording and the second with the original recording on Youtube.
I compared part by part of these two recordings, but i must say, how could it sound more identical ??? I don`t know ! The Cetec with that mod like yours, is not wrong, different, but not wrong.

I would even say, its extremely hard to find a difference. For me, just Fils solo is a bit darker. What’s different for you here?

i don’t know, to me it always seems that your recording isn’t bright enough. That’s the only difference from which i can tell that it’s not the original recording.

Indeed, as you know, for me that’s the best attempt you ever did!

Is the front boost different from the other? Different circuit? I mean it’s possible that it’s the same thing, but from a different switch ๐Ÿ˜€

Nope. Different. We checked and re-checked, it’s two separate, completely different circuits.
