18 Sep The eBay “Watch” Post
Update info as per 18th Sep 2012: removed outdated links and older comments. Banane (Franz)
I am frequently asked by many of you “Fil, what could or should I buy…? Would this or that be good, and how much should I pay?… listen Fil, this one sounds like a great rock and roll guitar….?”
So this is the place for you to post links to point me to, or for me to point you to, equipment sales ads of interest.
So from time to time I’ll post here selected eBay items (and other internet places/links) that either I would buy myself or strongly suggest you to look into. Please feel free to do the same in the comment boxes below, I’ll look into them eventually and add it to the post here).
Most of the time, I will look for/will be looking at issue/bargain pieces.

Take a look, thinking of bidding hard here. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated

Posted at 09:31h, 13 AprilHey all. I have a 1979 jmp 2203 with 6550s. If I want the “powerage” sound, should I have it fixed for el-34s? Or should I purchase a 2203 from another year? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
SoloDallas
Posted at 09:48h, 13 AprilClint, this is Fil – YES. EL34s all the way! Swap those guys!
SoloDallas
Posted at 09:49h, 13 AprilAnd sorry, what I mean to say is, just swap the tubes, NOT the amp. 1979 is a PERFECT year for 2203s.
Remember, you have to have the amplifier Re-Biased; so unless you know how to personally, PLEASE take the amp to a shop nearby you and have it done there.

Posted at 10:13h, 13 AprilThank you very much for the quick response! I am a very “hands on” person and work on almost everything myself. However, circuit boards scare me. I will for sure have a professional do the work. The only other thing I would love to get your input on is whether or not there is a specific brand and model of EL-34 I should stick to? Thanks again for the help.

Posted at 09:05h, 30 MarchHi Fil, what do you think of this? I really want to pickup a 2203 or 2204 that is as accurate to the late 70s and early 80s AC/DC sound as possible but am aware the JMP’s from 76 may have had different circuitry? It looks like an effects lop may have been added 🙁 Unfortunately I don’t have the opportunity to go test it out:

Posted at 07:47h, 05 AprilLooks like a good amp. You can always fix them up or revert to stock.
Just make sure you get it for a good price.

Posted at 09:29h, 02 MarchHi everyone,
I found a 1982 Marshall JCM 800 combo (model 4104). It is in like new (very nice condition) that was mainly used in a studio and a few gigs. Looks great cosmetically. The price is $1600 without shipping, but I am wondering if that is too high. Should it be more around $1000?

Posted at 07:46h, 05 AprilMaybe it’s a fair price. Could be cheaper though.

Posted at 16:43h, 07 DecemberOnly 5 more hours left. The guy said that the capacitors had been changed. Does that affect the tone in a non desirable way?
Also the guy sent me pictures of the internals, Although I`m not anywhere near to a professional. The capacitor area looks quite messy

It says collection only but if anybody on here wants it I could help out, it’s about 4 hours from me. Don’t see original ones like this at sensible prices very often.

Posted at 18:58h, 27 NovemberI’ve got a ’70 Rob. I haven’t got that kind of money for something similar to what I have. Always on the lookout though, there’s a few I’d like to have, early Tele and ES355 TD for instance.

Posted at 08:17h, 01 JulyHey everyone. Found this on ebay today http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Gibson-Sg-Standard-Vintage-Electric-Guitar-/261517441094?pt=Guitar&hash=item3ce3a77846
1970 Gibson SG Standard for U$1800 (BUY NOW PRICE)
Had a neck repair (but does not seem like a big problem)
What do you think?
Dries
Posted at 09:18h, 02 JulyI think it looks pretty good but some detail pics are needed imo. The frets look a bit worn, and I think the guitar had a refin as far as I can see.

Just to let you all know.
Very expensive with 5.300 Euros, but this should be the guitar that Angus played in the first years, thus it is in PERFECT conditions !
Dries
Posted at 12:38h, 19 JanuaryAngus’ SG was a 70, had a volute and metal saddles. It’s more a collector guitar, not a player. Why has nobody played it in 44 years? Mint guitars that old look always suspicious to me.
Dries
Posted at 12:38h, 19 JanuaryOh and it had a 3 pc neck 😉
Chris Moiny
Posted at 12:55h, 19 JanuaryYup, Angus’ was a late 70’s early 71’s SG.
This is actually a shop in Germany, vintage shop, but prices are over the limits…
