I just love both videos from this series….hope you will remember “something more” for the 3rd part π And please forget the “sorry for my english” part – you can speak even in chinese but make “interesting” (that’s the word? π ) tutorials.
Congratulations and thank you for sharing that!

(Btw, Fil, welcome back and I think you’ve got here a nice contributor, don’t you think? Of course if Felix agree with that…)
Hey great work Felix. Are you playing the Gretsch through that Vox AC-30 behind you or some other amp?
What amp settings would you recommend for Malcolm?
Heyho! In this Video, I use Guitar Rig 3 to get my sound (and I’m VERY happy with it! =) ) I would recommend clean settings with lots of mids and TONS of Treble! π SOme Bass is also not wrong, but treble is what you need for mal and rather Clean distortion. Better more Volume than Gain π
I just got myself an Double Jet in the mail off of Ebay, so Im going to be studying this quite thoroughly. Ive always liked your videos on youtube (Ive been subscribed for some time) and this was a great time to put this video up!
Thanks! At the moment, it needs a little bit of maintenance, it has some terrible string buzz and I need a Filtertron to put in there, because the current mini-humbuckers are so low output its almost quiet.
Great tuition :), i include my body movements when playing and love to play malcom covers i find to move definatly helps and you can see it when malcom plays, unfortunatly i dont have many backing tracks with malcom taken out π
Hope to post my own covers soon but need to get a decent camera first π
You can create the backin tracks yourself! Just load Audacity (free adio-editing software) with this you can delete the left audio-channel which contains Malcolms guitar track in nearly every song π
Unfortunatley not, but at the left and right side there are some big cavities, which let this guitar sound much louder when plyed dry compared to an all solidbody guitar. But its not a complete semihollow thats correst. π
Greetings!
Good stuff!
Question about hammer-ons: I hear the open chord/hammer-on in many songs (like you say for example in Jailbreak and Long Way to the Top); I also seem to think there are hammer-on in power chords down the fret when Malcolm plays in songs like High Voltage, Go Down – but I’m never sure if it’s a hammer-on (say you bar strings A,D,G on fret 5, then hammer-on strings D,G on fret 7) or sliding the entire power chord from say C to D. Any hints there?
Thanks!
Interesting suggestions! As far as I know whenever it comes to an A-Powerchord, Malcolm plays it open on the second fret (I cant remember him seeing grabbing it on the 5th position) but your right with hammering powerchords in High Voltage! He actually do that in ther verse when hammering the E-Powerchord in the 7th Position and hammering with the pinke on the 9th fret. Sliding is done also but not as often as the hammering stuff. Remember Guns for Hire π
Technique-wise, I think I have an easier time with a hammer-on with my ring finger ‘hammer-barring’ the two higher notes of the power chord than sliding. Anuway, probably a good idea to practice different variations to mix things up. Thanks!
